I was thinking of using a 1.8kg Lager kits as a 'Pemium' kit and only making it to 20 pints instead of 40 does anyone know if I have to add sugar to this or will the kit stand alone.

This is an interesting idea and one i'd be happy to try... or for the effort buy two kits and make double the concentration..... either way how will the readings be effected and at what values is it then safe to bottle?

Dave.

Sorry Daab but against advice I went ahead and did it anyway (Nothing ventured nothing gained). The result - a very good flavoured strong Lager, which I'm very pleased with and still only 45p per pint. Better than any pub Lager (not difficult).

DaaB wrote:By using 2 tins in one brew (unless it is a 2 can kit) you run into the same problem of upsetting the hop ballance. Each tin of extract has sufficient bitterness for 40 pts. If you use less water with a standard recipe it's fine because as the bitternes goes up so does the gravity and the balance is maintained.
Daab, just to clarify, are you saying that the bitterness does not 'dilute'? yet the malts do?
