Hi all!
great informative forum, pretty new to the beer kit side though i have been brewing wine for approx 5 years now,
quick question, seen on the internet think it was harris website, that they sell kits named dudley ales, I live in york but am originally from Dudley so really would like to try but would i be wasting my time as they seem to be the lower end of the scale, has anyone tried them, what do they taste like?
r there any kits that may resemble holdens bitter or Banks,s?
used to do security on the Banks,s brewery, walking round there night after night surronded by beer but never having a drop, half killed me!
newbie
hi thanks for the welcome and the info, will indeed add things to the wine forum including my experiences and failures,
ref dudley ales found them advertised on this site:
http://www.shop4homebrew.co.uk/
they are the cheaper side of the kit market, but i may try one just for nostalgia sake, don,t expect too much from it though so i might be surprised or not, i will let you know

I've just done a Brupaks Honely Mild this weekend.
Will let you know what its like when its ready, I shall be comparing it to a banks's orginal (Mild)
If i get chance today (People keep giving me stuff to do at work!) i'll write up my brew day in the kit section.
Plus it does mean the fermentor cooling experiment has had to be canned for the time being i will update that thread as well with all the results ASAP.

Nice one IRM, looks like you've got some cool weather to do the fermenting in. Hopefully by the time the warms up 26 deg c it'll all be over B)
The fermenter was 22 degrees this morning bit warmer than i would have hoped over night but its bubbling away nicley and its a pretty cold and blustry day so i hope it won't get any warmer!
I have every think crossed for no heatwaves for at least 10 days!

QUOTE (Daft as a Brush @ Jul 10 2006, 01:08 PM) If it starts to warm up, i'd rack it off the slurry into a secondary fermenter or if you dont have one, straight to the keg if youre getting a steady sg reading. It's the yeast in the slurry that can cause harsh alcoholic flavours, mainly during primary fermentation.
Jims 10 day rule of thumb works well and normaly i'd suggest sticking with it but under the circumstances racking once the sg is steady should avoid any possible problems due to temperature.
I'll check it when i get back tonight but the way the weather has been today i'm not to worried.
I was planning on racking to a secondry fermenter once i got a steady SG as i plan to bottle an so was loooking to reduce the sediment to a minimum.
