Another sediment question

Post by PMH0810 » Mon Feb 18, 2008 9:00 am

My Pilsner has quite a bit of sediment at the bottom of each 1ltr PET bottle and, because I only have pint glasses, I'm only getting one pint from a bootle.

The act of pouring off a pint and setting the remaining 3/4 down is disturbing the sediment - no matter how gentle I am.

Can I beat this (other than trying to find a 1ltr beer glass - am looking for something nice; any help?)?

I'm moving to Pint bottles from now on because of this problem but will probably always have some HB in 1Ltr PETs...

Doesn't it go flat/oxidise quick in a jug?

Sounds fair, thank you both.

B@stard is, I bought 24 1ltr PETs with both of my first brews - so will have to continue to use at least some until I feel I've justified the expense!

A trip to Tesco for a capped jug later today then.

Well you could always join the Cloudy Beer Society (it does excist!) or you could drink it full in the knowledge that it's packed full of vitimins. Or you could store the bottles upside down and open them over the sink and blow out the sediment then invert them and leave them for a few days. - read that in a home brew book a long time ago. :D

Cloudy beer does appeal (german/belgian yeast beers are great) and I know it won't actuall harm me but I'm not fond of the idea of a bout of the "Home Brew toilet dash"

Just buy a 1 litre stein! 8)

...or do what I do, I empty a 2 litre PET into a 2 litre juice pitcher before serving. The ones with a sealed lid and a rotary closure work best.

1ltr Steins are great, i've got a plastic one that i bought at Octoberfest back in the early nineties.
It was the smallest one there

Got it - Tesco closeable-spout 2ltr food grade plastic jug. £3.00.

Why is it the simple answers are the ones that always elude me but I have no trouble with complicated?
