Brewferm kriek kit.

Post by mattyk » Sun Feb 24, 2008 5:34 pm

Hi i have a brewferm Kriek kit on the go, it has got to a gravity of 1.010 which is apparently where it ends primary. It started at 1.040 which equates to a 3.9%. Now i thought this was going to be pretty potent stuff been a kriek so can i expect a fair amount of secondary fermentation? or should i add some more sugar to try and rekindle the primary fermentation for a few more days?

Its been pretty cold this week and so i'm worried it might not have gone properly.

Any thoughts?

Cheers Matt

Cheers Daab,

I guess i didn't use enough sugar.. which i was suspicious of as i used sugar crystals it did mention using an extra 5% which i didn't do and only noticed when reading instructions again just now. tastes fine anyway. but a lesson learned (check OG against what manufacturer says its should be ).

Well will get on with bottling tomorrow.

Cheers once again for your advice

i made it up to 12L (maybe 13..?) and measured gravity as 1.040 - i used sugar crystals (500g). I'm thinking there's something wrong with my inital gravity reading its nowhere near what Brewferm say.. the value they quote is that the original gravity of the mixture of kit, water and sugar's before fermenting or have i missed the point a bit (i.e its the density of the cans contents only).

Reading instructions i should have put an extra 25g of sugar in but that wouldn't make that much difference surely... anyway drank a small sample and it was pallatable (not 5.5% but thats not everything).

Cheers for your help. i never thought home brewing could be so much fun. its ace i'm turning water into quite nice beer.. :D

The Brewferm kits come with a generic sugar addition guide that covers all their products. From memory it was 500g per 12L. I pitched 2 kits in the same FV, can't remember the OG but the ABV worked out 6.3%.
