Flat as a mill pond

Hi all... another stupid question...my Sherwoods two and half gal. fermented out(did not take Hyd. readings  ),transfered to keg... had to add CO2 to get positive pressure. I find that when taking a sample the beer tastes good :D but is as flat as a pancake.I injected more CO2 but the relief valve on the King let some out. I do not think there is anything I can do now but is there any reason for this so that I may avoid this on my next brew.

What did you prime it with?

I primed the Keg with the recommended amount of sugar disolved on warm water and then added to the Keg. The top was than sealed very tight to prevent leaks. The keg was then kept in the warm for about 6 dyas before transfering to the shed. When I tried to take a sample, air started to rush IN so I closed the tap and filled with CO2 till it started to vent. The brew is now about three weeks old, tastes good but flat.
Any ideas???
