When I used to make my own, my local HBS prop' was decent enough to straight away tell me not to bother with the commercial kits. He advised I just buy plastic, half gallon (?) bottles of Malt Extract instead and chuck in such other ingredients as required and desired.
In effect then, I was neatly avoiding the middle man costs of putting the stuff in a tin and labelling it " Tom Youngs ".
The rest, as they say, is history ..... but after volantary de tox and absinance for eleven years, I now behave myself!

Thing is though; I always considered that was " Extract Brewing " and, now I come to mention it, I don't know why I never piled straight into the Extract board and discovered what I just have: That I really don't seem to recognise the processes spoken of up there!
Alright, my own proceedures could just be lost in an alcaholic haze of distant history? But I'm pretty damn sure I just sparked up the Electrim and poured a bottle of Dark EDME into the hot water. I remember using hops too, but can't remember any grainy stuff coming into the equation.
How come no one here seems to speak of this 'middle of the first lane' stuff then? Or am I just missing something - other than twenty years of my f*cking life due to pissing them away!
