WOW! Fixby Gold tastes amazing

Post by ChrisG » Thu May 29, 2008 9:41 pm

Just had a sneaky taste of my Fixby Gold which has been conditioning for one week (yes one week!).

It tastes so nice I could start drinking it now, but really want to leave it a bit longer as I have a barrel of IPA to get through.

It has a nice vanilla like taste, very smooth and a great golden colour.

Can this get any better? Quite clear already.

I cant get over the quality of this beer and I brewed it! Wonder what the three bottles I have will be like in a few months.

Any one else like this one?

I made the Colne Valley which is also excellent. These are top quality kits in my opinion, if I hadn't moved to AG already I probably would be making my way through the whole range!

It was the best kit I ever made.

Good to hear,

Mine has been bottled for over 3 weeks now and I'm having trouble keeping my hands off it! I can honestly say this has been the best kit I have ever made. I knocked it up as per Daab's instructions for Brewpaks kits, and I even used the yeast supplied.
If you can Chris, leave it another few weeks, it will improve even more :)

Cheers, why do you need to boil the extract, isnt it safe to use out of the tin?

Most probably, but in my experience a short boil does tend to produce a better beer. Daab's instructions only call for a 10 minute boil. As I understand it this is more of an insurance policy against any possible nasties in the wort. You wouldn't want any more of a boil than this because the extract is hopped, too much boiling would drive off any hop aroma.
Maybe someone more knowledgeable than me would like to clarify this :?:
