Newbie in need of some temperature advice

Post by halfpintmark » Sat Jun 14, 2008 9:15 pm

Spent several hours looking through this excellent forum and the wealth of info, but felt needed to ask my questions. I have brewed a couple of kits with success during the colder months in the shed using a heater belt. My concern is during the summer and how I can keep the FV at the right temperature as I have seen the shed temp hit 29 recently. Then how can I keep the keg cool enough during conditioning. Will high temps damage the beer during and after conditioning?

I've seen lots of talk about using fridges and an ATC800, but does this serve both purposes and useable all year round? I had thought about getting an ATC800 anyway for the winter, but don't know if you can leave a break in the FV for the probe.

Enought questions, thanks for any help you can give.

Hi halfpintmark,

Im using a thick gym mat, wich I adapted to the fermenter by cuting a whole for the tap. Than I fixed it tight to the fermenter with a fabric tape.

If it is working with 29°C room temperature you will have to test. For that - and as well for fermenting - I have a thermometer for fish tanks with a sensor, wich is IN the fermenter.

Idea?

So it seems the fridge is the best way to go. Am I right in thinking this is because you can use it as an insulated box for fermenting then use it as fridge to cool for conditioning?

Any other ideas for temp control and cooling would be much appreciated.
