Ale Suggestion

Post by scott6 » Thu Jun 19, 2008 6:54 pm

Need a suggestion guys and gals for my next ale. Brew ales from kits and have so far brewed Nelsons Revenge, Muntons Smugglers Ale, Tom Caxtons Real Ale and Brewmaster Summer Ale. Looking for suggestion for next ale to be started this weekend (Hop Shop on my doorstep). I prefer lighter summer ales. Any suggestions very gratefully appreciated.

Brupaks Fixby Gold, a cracking kit producing a extremely tasty light beer

one of the best kits I did before going AG

Coopers IPA is one of my favourites, not exactly a summer ale but it has a refreshing, bright hop flavour and is light enough to be drunk in quantity.

try extract i reckon. ie: not the kits but 2 tins of unhopped extract and some hops. it's a bit closer to real brewing.

My coopers IPA was ruined by a cornie newly purchased with so called new seals, It ended up tasting of shandy.

That is annoying, i had a similar problem with my first few brews, i woudl'nt say it ruined them but they certainly were better after changing the seals.

If i was going to take issue with anything about norms service for cornies it would be this, its a bit cheeky of him to list them as having had the seals changed, since he obviously doesn't change them.

It is curious as the kegs I had from him looked like the seals were new but the keg stank of syrup. I wish he didn't use that greasy stuff on the rubber to make them look black.

I thought that maybe the seals were new but because the kegs hadn't been cleaned, the new seals were impregnated with syrup. They may be new seals but have been stood for a few weeks until they are sold.

I have also though had a couple of kegs where the seals on the dip tube and gas in tube has just disintegrated whilst removing them so it seems a bit inconsistent.

I'll have more cornies from norm but I will make a point of requesting the new seals in a separate bag.

Brupaks Fixby Gold it is. Thanks for the suggestions. Any brewing tips eg. added ingredients, or shall I just stick to the kit.

Drinking it now, Yummy, I only boiled the hops for 10 mins and it's plenty bitter enough for me, I followed the destructions, my fermenting temps flutuated a bit, try and avoid this if you can.
A friend was just over, I gave him a bottle and he then asked if I was willing to sell a batch, in my opinion that is good enough recomendation
:D :D :D
