edme stout

Post by beesley121 » Tue Jun 24, 2008 11:28 pm

hi guys,

I made up a edme stout using 1kg dark malt extract.

The original gravity was 1.042, today, 1 week after fermentation began it has a gravity of 1.020  This has been the case for 3 days now. I thought I may have a stuck fermantation so yesterday roused and stirred in some more yeast but no luck with the fermentation starting again.

any advice as Ive calculated this to be only around 2-3% ABV

you could try pitching some yeast vit, but i'd wait for someone who knows a little , no alot more than me before going that way, other than that maybe draw off a half litre and add make a yeast starter in there then once your sure its firing repitch that at the wort

I'd give it a day or so to make sure (after rousing). If it's still not having it, you could throw in a bit of Dry Beer Enzyme. This has been mentioned around here (again) recently. Basically, it ferments the normaly unfermentable sugars into alcohol, this also creates a drier beer, but gets a decent alcohol level...

As I said, leave it another day or so after rousing to make sure as it may be a slow fermenter.

Has this happened because I used 1kg of dark malt extract??

not to keen on making this beer 'dry' mate

i had a little taste the other day when I pitched in some more yeast and it tastes great, really sweet so would like to try and keep it that way.

could I add some more brewing sugar to get the alcohol level up??

how low would you expect the FG to go (OG - 1.042) ???

can I use tronozymol as my yeast energiser as that is all i have in but on the pack it doesnt mention anything about using it for beer making, just wine making
