Temperatures question

Post by richieh » Fri Jun 27, 2008 9:27 am

Been doing some digging and i cant find a single post with all the recommended temps in. ie fermentation, lagering, conditioning and serving for ales, lagers or anything else with yeasties in.
So from what i understand ales ferment around 20 deg c, lager at around 12 and i know lagering is around 1 deg c for a few weeks.
I need to know the best temps for condtioning ales and what does everyone find as an ideal serving temps for both lagers and ales.
Only asking the question as the wife found my THIRD beer fridge yesterday(and it'll hold 4 cornies too :D ) so i should have enough fridge space to set up all the required temps once fitted with new thermostats.
cheers for any advice
Richie

I would say 13-14C is a good ale serving temp and 6-ish for lagers. As I only have one fridge for my kegs, I aim between the two at around 10C.

Cask Marque recommends 12-14C for ales. IIRC CAMRA is a smidgen higher.

serving temps

Yes... I've heard 13-14deg C for serving Ales.

A little tip that the man at the Black Sheep Brewery gave me was to buy 2 bottles! Put one in the fridge, and one at room temp. Then mix the two to drink.......

Although thinking about it it was probably just to sell more beer..... but it does work!
