All,
I have an Admiral's Reserve fermenting at the moment, and as it seems to be going OK I'm planning my next brew. I'm going to go for an IPA kit (Any recommendations welcome - I like 'em hoppy).
First, I was wondering if this would work as a water preparation method:
* Sanitize and rinse everything (obviously)
* Pour 32 pints of tap water into my fermentation vessel and allow to stand for about 1/2 hour to lose any volatile gases. No camden tablets or anything though.
* Bring 6 pints of water to the boil in a pan, turn the gas off, add the tins of malt extract and mix thoroughly.
* Add the malt extract solution to the cold (and hopefully chlorine-free) water in the fv and mix/aeriate well.
* Temp should be quite low by now so add hop powder/yeast and mix thoroughly
* The rest as normal.
Second, since I like hoppy beer, can I add hops at any point without going all the way to an extract brew (yet)? For example, would dry-hopping the keg be worthwhile?
