Not sure if this was a good idea but.......

Ok have fermented a Woodforde's Great Eastern Ale for two weeks, I brought a plastic Barrel from Wilko's ( a Young’s Brew Barrel) and siphoned my beer in last Friday. Checked the barrel on Saturday and noticed the screw top had begin to lift at the top ( around the plastic washer) tried to get it back in place but no joy so I have put super glue around the split.

Question is was this a good idea or not.. seems to be holding tight for now but worried it may acttualy effect the beer. :?:

Thanks in advance for the advice

I'm no expert, and I'm quoting from google search results.. however I found this link which is about someone who glued a food processor bowl together using superglue... It may answer your question:

Clicky.

To quote:
Cured cyanoacrylate (superglue) is non-toxic, but it's also pretty fragile and very slightly water soluble, so probably wouldn't do a good job.
So it might do the job in sealing, but further down the thread is this:
One big concern was that with a sealant, you'd get a lot of little hard-to-clean nooks and cracks, perfect places for bacteria to accumulate.
I'd say, a good idea to get the seal back on the keg so you can continue enjoying the beer, but as soon as the keg's empty, I'd replace the lid.

That'll teach me to trust what the internet has to say

edit:
However I did stumble across this crazy thread about someone asking if using superglue on your tongue is a good idea or not

ok it's been a while now and just got the keg out the garage to test the good stuff poured 3 pints and all were cloudy and flat :x .. on the upside it dosn't taste off just like flat ale, still quite new to brewing so wondering is it possible to now put it in bottle and carbonate / clear it that way ?
