My first brew FG and green taste?!

Post by Stoutman » Fri Aug 15, 2008 11:39 am

I'm on day 7 of primary with my youngs Harvest Stout kit. the OG was 1.046 and now the SG is 1.013. The target FG with sugar is 1.006, but i used beer enhancer, so I'm not sure if that will affect my gravity. I'll take another reading tomorrow and see if its changed. I want to bottle tomorrow night, you see! :D

The wort/beer temp is 20.5 constant. I've just tasted some and it was not at all sweet, and tasted very bitter and hoppy, with alight acetic qualities.

How does 'green' homebrew tend to taste towards, or at the end of fermentation?

It'll taste "Not quite right". My mild tastes a bit harsh, everything's rather too in your face. Have a drink after a week when it's carbonated, then have another drink in another 3 weeks. You'll see. :D

Thanks max, I'll try and resist the temptation to drink them all before the three week mark!

4 weeks total! Resiiiiiist.

The rule of thumb is one week for every 10 points of gravity.
