Leaking PET bottle

Post by Shoit » Thu Aug 28, 2008 10:51 pm

I bottled a batch of Muntons Conkerwood ale last saturday. The final gravity finished quite high after 11 days in the FV at 1017. I check on the bottles today and one of the 2L PET bottles has leaked. I think i overtighted the lid and damaged the thread on the lid itself.

I've added 1/2 teaspoon of sugar again and re-sealed with a new lid - will that be ok? Also, all of the other bottles are quite hard, i presume this is because the brew finished so high. I've read that PET bottles can take alot of pressure - is there any way to monitor this, should i loosen the lids a little?

It would think so. 8)

I find that after 5 or 6 uses, occasionally the odd cap will not reseal, so I try to replace them now and again anyway. It also gives you the opportunity to replace any tatty looking bottles at the same time.
