How much treacle to prime an Old Ale brew

Post by brew mountain » Fri Aug 29, 2008 7:17 pm

It's been asked before and no doubt will be asked again, but I am brewing up the Brupaks Old Ale kit using 1kg of dark malt in the fermenter and it's now ready to ready to bottle.

And would like to add some treacle (probably with some glucose) when priming it for that "Theakstons Old Peculiar" taste, question is how much?

The kit asks for "1/2 tsp / bottle" or "100grams / keg", but I will be making it up in a keg and then use a bottling attachment to fill the bottles so will go for 100 grams. So does anybody have any experience or suggestions on the quantities of treacle & glucose?

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!!

Don't know but have tacked on this reply to your thread as treacle seems like a bl00dy good idea.

I think I used about 80 grams. I'll check the notebook after I've fed the kids.
