Right so tommorow is the big day. I will be leaving work and making way to the brewmart to begin my new hobby. Ive seen a starter kit that is reasonably priced

from what I can see it has all the essentials an comes with a coopers Lager to get me on my way.
Reckon I will need anything else in addition to what it comes with? apart from the obv, bottle caps, capper, therm (cos i dont think it comes with it)
I really cant wait now, an the wait for it to brew an condition is gunna be a killer ^^
Cheers RD
Big Day!
If you can stretch that little bit further I'd go for this :-

The kit you suggest comes with 1 can to which you add sugar to make 40 pints. The kit in the link above comes with 2 cans and no sugar addition is required. The 1 can kits usually have a 'thinner' taste to them in my experience.
I paid £19.99 for the two-can Muntons Pilsner at my LHBS so £33.99 is a cracking deal for that lot.

Dont want to burst your bubble but that is a Coopers Bitter in the pic.
Seeing as your actually going to be going to the shop ask if they will swap the bitter kit for a lager kit for you and get them to swap the brew suggar for light malt extract ( dry type ).
Only reason im pointing this out is I would hate for you to brew something that tastes like cats P with no body which you will get if you use pure brewing suggar which is what it looks like they are bunging in with the kit. Caps will be less than a pound and a capper is about £15 ish bottles ask your local pub if you can have some magners bottles from them they may be accomodating.

They do the starter kit with your choice of Cooper's kit - Bitter, Draught, Real Ale, Dark Ale, Stout or Lager.Damfoose wrote:Dont want to burst your bubble but that is a Coopers Bitter in the pic.
If you are set on the cheaper kit, I would keep the brewing sugar, but add a 500g Munton's Light Spraymalt to mix 50/50 with 500g of the brewing sugar.
The more expensive starter kit is a nice buy though.

Bah slightly dissapointed. went to the beer shop to get the kit at £40 to find its an online deal so had to settle for the cheaper one after all.
1 can of coopers lager
1kg sugar
1x 5 gallon barrel (without tap sadly)
hydro
syphon.
10x 1.5 lt plastic bottles.
powdered bleach/disinfectant
not all bad it was only £27.50 an it makes up 40 pints.
Cleaned up the kit, poured in 1lt boiling water, poured in tin of gloop (that smells like horlicks
) poured in a lt of boiling water into the tin an added, mixed a bit added the 1kg sugar mixed up some more, the topped off with the rest cold water (continually mixing)
Took a hydro reading and it was 1046 so looks pretty normal. added yeast stuck the lid on an now praying that i can leave it well alone for 5 days to take another reading.
lets see how it goes
