I took a hydro reading last night and it was 1020 after 4 days so I will leave it a bit longer. I am having a dilemma about priming. If I dissolve my primer in water and boil it then add it to the FV, this sounds like the easiest idea to me but I am a bit worried about sediment and getting an even distribution.

Alternatively I could try to equally fill 20 PET bottles with a small amount of the solution, but again this could be tricky. I don't have a syringe or anythign.

any tips?

To be honest, I think you'd struggle to mix the sugar with the wort properly in the primary fermenter without disturbing the sediment. And if it isn't properly mixed you can get problems - too little in one bottle, too much in another (= explosive device).

Unless you have a separate bottling bucket, I would recommend you add the sugar (or sugar solution) directly to the bottles.

Hi m8,

I've just bottled my castlemaine gold and it looks much darker than the rest i've done so far. Did you find this as well?

Cheers,

That's what I have always done, and it never fails.

Beer in first, then adding dry glucose/sugar with a teaspoon measure and a small funnel make it a doddle, much easier than messing about with a bottling bucket IMHO.

Well I am now only on my 2nd brew and its a Coopers Pilsner and this is much lighter. My Castlemaine is definitely dark and when I bought a vienna lager the other day (to see what it tasted like), I would say my castlemaine is similar in colour to that.

Did you use malt extract in yours at all?

Yes I used BKE instead of just all sugar. I was just wondering as I used BKE with my last coopers and it's much darker than that. I had a small sample when bottling :) and it tastes and smells fine I just thought it would be a bit lighter for some reason!!

Looking forward to tasting once it's ready.
