Quick question about using spray malts, i have got a Coopers Stout kit i am going to start this weekend and have bought 1kg of Dark spray Malt, does this need to be added to hot water before adding to my FV and kit or just added as normal?
Also will this produce enough CO2 if i keg and prime to not need extra CO2 in a top tap king keg?
Cheers Paul

Re: Spray Malts
It does tend to dissolve better in warm / hot water but I've added it to 'pitch' warm wort & it's worked ok.
Adding spray malt, as a priming sugar is a little different, as there's a larger risk of infection, so best to add it boiling water, then zap the mixture in the micro/pan to bring it back to the boil, allow to cool (covered) & bish bosh, the jobs a goodun.

Fermenting - Nothing
Conditioning - Nothing
Drinking - Tea
Planning - Everything, if only I had the time ... !!

Re: Spray Malts
Once primed and kegged it will initially produce enough co2 to carbonate and dispense. However as you work your way through the keg and depending on how much you drink in a session, you will need to top it up with co2
Re: Spray Malts
Thanks for the replies, i was planning to use the spray malts for the initial fermentation not as a primer, was going to use 1kg in place of the 1kg of sugar and then prime in the barrel with sugar ( not quite sure how much would be needed but will work that out). Just not sure what is the best type of co2 dispenser for a top tap king keg as i have heard the soda stream ones tend to put to much co2 in as you have to use a whole cartridge.

Paul; 'Incredibly', I actually don't prime my (admittedly, Basic type) Barrels. I now use these in far preference to the floating thingy, top tap things.
I use a standard ~ what I call ~ 'Bomb' of CO2. Usual Cartridge offered, and refillable, by ye LHBS. One second burst - say " Kangaroo ". That takes a second
- and ye on ye way. Often times makes ye beer as heady as hell anyway. If so, just say " Kang ... "
Whole lot cheaper, in the long run, that 'sparklet' bulbs. And ye get a say in the level of gas used.
Point is; With a 'Bomb' ye get a choice. With a Bulb? It's all or nothing. Take control.
