coopers bavarian experiment

so, i spotted that i might shortly run out of beer and, planning ahead, put on my last kit of coopers bavarian lager about 10 days ago - thing is, i didn't have enough (or any) sugars to add and i thought i'd be clever and use just the syrup from the kit and ONLY MAKE 3 GALLONS, thus compensating for the lack of extra sugars. clever huh?

well, perhaps not. it's pretty cool in the hall and fermentation has been slow so we're still only down to 1.012, but i couldn't resist taking a slurp of the hydrometer sample and... hooo that's bitter! obviously, the kit is extra-hopped since it is intended to be diluted!! d'oh! actually, it's not too bad cos i like it bitter, but i just thought i'd report in case anyone else was thinking of trying it!

i'll be barrelling soon, i'll let you know what final result is like. i could probably add a couple of gallons of sugar water now, but i sort of feel like i want to carry this through... suggestions welcome!
