Problem with Brupaks Brewers Choice best Bitter

I have a work mate that's made a few kits and wanted to move on a bit. I recomended he had a go at one of Brupaks Brewers Choice Kits as I got great results with them when I was doing kits 8) .

So on my advice he made the Best Bitter + 1 kg of Spray malt- but says it tastes awful.

He gave me a bottle today and I have to agree it's not right #-o . To me it tastes and smells like it's got no hops in it :? It, looks fine and has got a FG of 1010.

I think he may have left the hop bags out? sounds unlikley but I guess it's possible, I wonder if they were missing from the kit? I'll ask him if he remembers how many there were (IIRC there are 3-4 in the kit, 1 with grains 2 with hop pellets)

Anyway do you think drawing off some of the brew and boiling some hops in it, cooling and adding it back to the FV would be worth a go to salvage it, otherwise it's drain cleaner #-o

OK thanks Chris

That figures as I wouldn't say the brew was very sweet so there must be some hop biterness to balance the malt. I guess the malt extract in these kits is pre hopped for bitterness....so he just needs flavor

Think i'll give him some EKG to steep, worth a try.
