I have just mixed my Coopers Australian lager kit and set it in the corner of the dining room. Coopers recommend keeping it above 18 degrees. But I have heard on here Lagers can taste better if fermented at 12 degrees for a longer period.
WHat should I do, do as per the instructions or try and ferment it in a much cooler room?
Lager Brewing Temps
Re: Lager Brewing Temps
depends on the yeast, i think you get standard ale yeast with the kit in which case you need to keep it about 18-22 deg. If its lager yeast then it will handle lower fermentation temps and you can stick it in the garage (it gives it a less fruity taste).
id keep it where it is, unless you find out that the yeast is a lager type.

It is probably best to stick to the kit instructions if you are using the supplied kit yeast. However, if you used another yeast such as Saflager, you will be able to ferment with this yeast at 10c-14c.

Oh I see
I will look into different types of yeast when I am in my local brewing store.
See what they have in.
It all makes sense now.
Cheers fella's.
