Ice Cool Lager

Post by clootie » Sat Dec 06, 2008 2:39 pm

A couple of weeks ago I started a brewbuddy lager kit. I used a kilo and a bit of sugar and replaced the kit yeast with a lager yeast. I put it under airlock in the shed hoping the lower temperature would suit the yeast. After a week it had only dropped a few points but it has been realy cold here every day (sub zero at night). Last week I gently stirred the brew and then wrapped it in three layers (including a quilted jacket). Today the gravity hasn't dropped at all. So what to do now? If I thought the beer was safe from infection and that the yeast was just sleeping, I would be happy to leave it alone and hope the weather changes. However, I am worried the yeast has had it and I am considering brigining it into the house and either giving it a chance to revive or add the kit yeast and top ferment. Any advice gratefully received. Cheers.

Cheers Chris, didn't realise the temp would drop so far. It wasn't quite as cold in the weeks leading up to me starting it off. Will do as you suggest and bring it in from the cold
