mixing your drinks - it is New Years Eve

Hi All

as its New Years Eve thought I would sample a variety of brews - kicked off with a bottle of Coopers Aussie Lager, only been in the bottle for a week and pleasantly surprised at how drinkable it was - although needs to be colder. Followed that with my first bottle of turbo-cider, and again surprised how good it was, so good it didn't last long. Then the low point, a pint of Geordie Lager, made this at the end of November and its getting better but still not very drinkable (not sure why its so bad possibly the sugar). Now I've moved onto a pint of the ubiquitous Coopers Stout - might have hit a high point and it's not even 6.30pm yet (a high point until I start on the Talisker!). Not sure I'm going to make it to midnight.

Hope you all have a good New Years Eve

Try your Geordie lager again in a month's time, possibly after another beer or a glass of water. Some beers do taste funny straight after cider.

Happy new year all! My non brewing friends were very impressed with the brews I laid on for them. Large amounts of Wherry and Admirals reserve, both very nice. One mate said the reserve was as nice as his favourite dark star ales. The real surprise of the night was how good my first TC turned out, very drinkable indeed and praised by the west country scrumpy drinker amongst us.

Have a great year of brewing in 2009!

edit1now - everytime I've sampled the Geordie lager its been quite unpalatable, although it is improving. I don't need the space its occupying in the garage yet so am happily going to leave it and see if it gets better. One of the problems I've got with it is its in 2L bottles so everytime I sample one its a whole bottle that has to be used as once a glass has been taken out it doesn't have enough carbonation to 're-pressurise' the bottle, and if it doesn't taste nice down the sink it goes.

Hopefully it will improve with age
