Sediment free lager?

Post by D_C » Wed Dec 31, 2008 5:10 pm

All it is, is I want to make a batch of Lager (just a Coopers Kit or something) for going camping with the lads in June, and wondered if it would be possible to make a brew that could... dare I say it... be drunk saight from the bottle :!:
It's bad enough that they won't be refrigerated but with all the antics and indulgence of a jolly boy's week in the woods I can't see that they'll be decanted into nice clean glasses that won't get smashed.

I normally bottle straight from the primary FV and pour into a glass to drink at home. I don't even mind a bit of sediment in the glass, mankes me feel like a real man! :aarh: I know a bottling bucket cuts the amount of sediment in each bottle, but by how much? I mean the other night I had a bottle of Shepherd Neame's 1698 straight from the bottle and didn't even realise it was bottle conditioned til I was washing the bottle out afterwards, but I don't imagine this'd be enough to make a nice fizzy lager.

Anyway, sorry to waffle on, cut a long story short: can I get fizzy sediment free bottles like lager youd buy?

I'll shut up now. :-# Happy new year everyone!

If you are going to be drinking straight from the bottle then a small yeast deposit isnt going to seen or even tasted. What will be a problem is a drink with the carbonation level of a lager being served too warm as it is likely to erupt from the bottle.
Anyway when you go camping take plenty of toilet paper just in case you and your mates take on board excessive amounts of vitamin B

Yes you can . . . . You can't do it in bottles though.

Rack to a secondary and add finings. Syphon clear beer to Corny Keg, Carbonate artificially, chill beer and bottles, bottle direct form corny. . . . Clear beer in corny.

You could even (Dare I say It) Filter the beer ;)

Right.

Blimey.

I think I might just invest in some plastic pint glasses. Or a crate of Holsten. Thanks for the advise tho. Just seems like a lot of work!
