Priming EDME Stout

Post by decdee » Fri Jan 09, 2009 10:44 am

i was wondering if anyone had any idea's or got good results when priming this stout with anything different from brewing sugar.
this is the first time that i have brewed this stout, followed the 24pt intructions so that i didnt have to add any sugar, i will be transferring to a second vessel then priming before i bottle. went and checked on the brew lastnight and it had a very thick crust on top so all is looking good at the minute.

any help would be great.

we did this stout with dark spray malt and some roasted barley and it turned out to be a good drink, despite pitching at 24C and it finishing at 16C with FG of 1016. #-o

we used what we had left of carbonation drops, one in each 750ml bottle and for the rest we used normal household sugar. For this we just added 1table spoon of sugar per 750ml bottle.

it was a nice drink, but after hearing ditch bang on about coopers stout, thinks we'll be tryin stout next time around!

Have this stout at home and was thinking of priming with fried teacle as a friend did, and the slightly burnt sugar aroma and flavour was interesting to say the least. Another option is to add sour beer (eg guiness foreign export or whatever they call it) I've never tried this but have listened to people swear by it.
