Bitter recommendations please

Post by vinceg » Tue Jan 20, 2009 1:46 am

Evening all! Thus far in my brief brewing career, I've tried a few kits for things like mild, porter, novelty Belgian beers and proper stout, i.e mostly things that are hard to find in pubs.

Having been weaned on Adnams, I thought it's about time I treied my hand at a good old proper Suffolkish bitter. Can anyone recommend a nice bitter kit and maybe suggest how I should alter it in order to get a nice hoppy brew. I've bought some hopped light spray malt, will this do? Was wondering about getting a basic Youngs Harvest Bitter and chucking my malt in with some of those hop teabag things.....?

All suggestions greatly welcomed.

You won't go far wrong with a Woodforde's Wherry or Admiral's Reserve IMO and you won't need to mess about adding spraymalt or extra sugar

Well, it's Yorkshire not Suffolk but I liked the Yorkshire Brewery 'Yorkshire Terrier'.

It comes with hop pellets, spraymalt and a tin of extract so you don't have the risk of making up your own recipe.
