Coopers Irish Stout

Post by jimthecat » Thu Jan 22, 2009 6:34 am

Just about to take ditch's advice and start a Coopers Irish Stout kit. What I need to know is, would it be better in bottles or a pressure barrel. I'm thinking probably barrel but am concerned it wont keep as long as it would if it were in bottles.

Also the few beer kits I have made, all of which have been excellent, have all been on the fizzy side. Is it something I am doing wrong? Obviously i don't want the stout to be to fizzy.

Carbonation is caused by adding sugar prior to bottling (known as Priming). Just reduce the amount you add to reduce fizzieness.

It's good that beer lasts virtually indefinitely in bottles. Because someone gave me two dozen bottles of Guinness, as a, well; 'A Drink'. And they'll likely still be in their bottles when they drag my stinking corpse out of here. Bottled beer is an extremely last resort for me. Can't stand throat burn in a beer.

Anyway, you're having a laugh, aren't ye, Jim? Coopers Stout won't last in a keg? F*ckin sure it won't! One taste and that'll be it!

Well my coopers stout sure didn't last long.
Plus with the keg its easier to pour a pint, and easier for SWMBO (or in my case parents also) to loose track of how many you had, if you have a SWMBO like mine who moans about anything more than a pint. Dammit if i like the beer i'm going to want more than a pint!

Ah Benson, you have a SWMBO like mine, never happy to let me enjoy a pint or 5! The only problem with kegs is when they see you cleaning it out and say "I can't belive you've drunk 40 pints already!!! [-X " Of course the way round this is do do everything whislt they are out

Aye if you keep doing it whilst there out, you can make believe that you've made 40 pints last ages
