Wherry Bottling tomorrow - a yeasty question

Post by WishboneBrewery » Sat Jan 31, 2009 7:42 pm

I'm going to be bottling my Wherry tomorrow, I plan on tapping off the brew into a clean sanitized bucket, mixing in my 80-100g of priming sugar and then bottling with bottling stick.

Should I or shouldn't I take half a teaspoon of yeasty sludge from the bottom of the FV to mix in the priming/ bottling bucket???

Thanks :)

I'm new, but from what I have heard, the yeast in suspension should be easily enough for bottle conditioning.

I could be wrong.

On my first brew I put half a teaspoon of yeast from the FV in ever bottle and a soupladle in the barrel. Needless to say the bottles were somewhat yeasty and I was unpopular for some time as the yeast kept on going and pressurised my bowels. I still put a ladle in the barrel though but you do draw enough in suspension when transferring from the FV, so a teaspoon in your barrel can't hurt, certainly not like half a teaspoon per bottle hurts in morning, but like a true brit i battled through 15 botles over couple of weeks. Thank god that's gone.

If only I could utilise this renewable energy source, using myself as a human space heater doesn't impress the wife.
