At the moment I am fermenting a Woodfordes Wherry. It's been in the FV for 1 week. So anyway the story goes like this. I put the Wherry in the FV on Friday 30th Jan it started fermenting and lost its head after about 4 days. It had some scum floating on the top of it unlike my last brew. Also the room was very cold it was in until I got a heater for it. Anyway it looked like it was not ready and did not smell like my first brew (first brew was a brew buddy bitter kit with a 1KG beer enhancer and 250g of dark brown sugar) so I have been reading all the horror story's about the woodfordes kits and i panicked!! Last night thinking it was not ready yet i added Tronozymol Yeast Nutrient and some extra yeast and gave it a gentle stir. It immediately fizzed up and looked like it was fermenting again. Being the foolish T**T that I can be at times I then took a reading with my hydrometer (don't even ask me why I took it after and not before because I have no sensible answer to this question apart from that I am a P***K) anyway the reading on the hydrometer was pretty much what is said it should be on the box. Have I made an almighty cock-up of my beer and doomed it to the sink? I guess only time will tell. Also do the all malt kits ferment faster? All I have read seems to suggest they can be/are slower. Also how on earth did my beer ferment to the advertised reading in such low temperatures? All the horror stories I read on here and mine seems to be the complete opposite a super beer maybe? HAHA. Anyway what do you guys think?
Thanks.
Colin.
I think i did a silly thing!!!
Re: I think i did a silly thing!!!
I don't think you'll have done any harm. If the FG is where the kit said it should be chances are the yeasties are all done. Bottle/keg and be done with it, I'm positive it'll drink fine in 5 or 6 weeks.
