To date the best kit results I have had are without a doubt the Coopers Stout cans (either one !!). Never miss with those, great flavors and the complexity often hides the imperfections I often get in lghter brews.
Just put this one down today to try a Munton's 3kg Stout .......
Munton's Imperial Stout 3kg
Acacia Honey 200g
Munton's LDME 500g
Lactose 160g
Stove top boil 20 mins. Filled up to 22L. Pitched packet yeast (Munton's premium??) at 18 degrees.
Hoping for a winner - probably could have done with a little extra hops but I didnt have any handy. Hope fully not too sweet but thinking it should be ok. Cheers.

mariton did you boil the extract for 20 mins?mariton wrote:Stove top boil 20 mins.
im only asking because i whacked the continental pilsener on today and in the blurb it says
`with the muntons gold kits we do not recommend boiling the contents of any cans at any stage of your brewing process.
this can destroy the delicate balance of malt and hops. our manufacturing process includes a boil to assist in the precipitation...blah blah`
mind, as im typing this im wondering if it would make much difference in such a strong stout.

Re: Munton's Imperial Stout 3kg
Hi Brysie,
Nah I just warmed the extract cans up by standing them in hot water as usual and poured them in just after I turned the heat off on the boil. So I only boiled the LDME, Lactose and Honey. I remember reading somewhere that unpastuerised honey can have bacteria or yeast in it so it is best to boil ??
She is bubbling away nicely today. Im over in Norway so its still pretty cold here so I use a tropical fish tank heater in a tub of water with the fermentor standing inside that to get the temp right. Always sits perfectly at 18c and never moves which I think helps with the final result.
Cheers

Generally speaking it isn't a great idea to boil kits as the extract is hopped and you might well lose flavour. But then you didn't boil it did you?
