Post by Chris The Fish » Mon Mar 16, 2009 10:31 pm

I have had my Colne Vally Bitter on the go for about 9 days and up till now its been fine and smelt lovely.

Went to bottle it this eve and there was a definate vinigar twang.

Im hopeing its not got infected recently and is just showing it, however i may have duffer of 35 bottles of beer.

Anyone brewed this beer before? did it give off smells at all?

:( :(

I've done a Fixby Gold and a Birkby Bitter, both I disliked right up to 5/6 weeks, after that they were cracking.
Not suggesting yours will improve (sorry) but you never know, I have never brewed a kit that I didn't like at first taste apart from these two.

My first brew (which is conditioning at the moment in bottles) was a Colne Valley, and I didn't notice any off smells from it. In fact I had a bottle or two after a week, and they tasted very drinkable (perhaps it's just my excitement over my first brew). I did leave it for 2 weeks before bottling though... dunno if that would make much difference.

sounds a bit off to me...

but from what ive learned on this forum, if you have a sip and recoil in horror, then sling it.
if you have a sip and think`mmm not sure about this one` then give it time to condition and itll probably get much better.
fingers crossed :D
