Coopers Sparkling Ale - Loopy Juice
Coopers Sparkling Ale - Loopy Juice
Any one done the coopers sparkling ale as per the recipe?
i did, using 1.6kg of LME, then 500g of Spray malt and about 400g of glucose.
its about 8-8.5%.
i had 2 pints last night and was seriously peed so it may be stronger. No other reason for posting this other than im well impressed with this beer of much falling over.

the kit and tin of lme go into the Fv, then rinse the cans with kettleful(s) of water and add this to a large saucepan, into that you disolve the spraymalt and glucose.
this is then added to the Fv and stirred until the syrups are fully disolved.
make up to the water limit, pitch the yeast and wait.
then drink
then fall over.

Wow ! I was gonna try this one but I`m not sure about the extra 400 grms of glucose. Its probably my favourite bottled beer but its not always easy to find or cheap either when you do come across it. At 5.8 abv the commercial brew is about strong enough for me.
Hows the flavour compare with the kit ?

Re: Coopers Sparkling Ale - Loopy Juice
to be honest they are quite dissimilar.
the bottle is a crisp beer, if i recall, whereas the kit is quite toffeeish/caramelley and has less hop character if you get my drift.
still a cracking pint, and taste wise i actually prefer the one i did prior to this, using 1kg of Spraymalt (giving about 5-6 pc)

edit: just noticed your drinking the Coopers IPA, if you like that, you'll love the sparkling ale!

Cue Benson, he'll not be able to resist strong falling over water

I'm not that bad...KevP wrote:Cue Benson, he'll not be able to resist strong falling over water

Although this sounds like a nice kit, toffeeish / caramelly sounds like a gorgeous drink...maybe have to put one of these on the next order

My thoughts exactly! Wonder how it might translate to a keg?

Re: Coopers Sparkling Ale - Loopy Juice
Does indeed sound good, might try one myself for mid summer, should we have one.

Re: Coopers Sparkling Ale - Loopy Juice
its well worth doing it as suggested on the tin (with the lme and spraymalt), but also great with the kilo of spraymalt.
either way you wont be dissapointed

Re: Coopers Sparkling Ale - Loopy Juice
I think if you add too much sugar/malt you risk losing some of the flavour of the beer. You will make it much stronger but that is not always better taste. The most I do is 1kg dry malt with 250 g brew sugar or demerara. This gives me about 4.5 to 5% abv which is strong enough for me.

Re: Coopers Sparkling Ale - Loopy Juice
Yes if you add too many fermentables then you'll loose the flavour, unless you knock down the water content of the kit as well as adding a little extra sugar/dsm.
Re: Coopers Sparkling Ale - Loopy Juice
with this kit, the recommended additions are as above. ie. can of lme, 500g spraymalt and 300g of glucose.
the can is made with these in mind.

Re: Coopers Sparkling Ale - Loopy Juice
Just looked at my can of coopers sparkling ale and your right about the amount of fermentables .It says it was originaly brewed by thomas Cooper in 1862 as a tonic for his wife
No wonder he couldn't get her out of bed
