Making beer stronger and then diluting

Post by a1baz » Sun Mar 22, 2009 3:59 pm

Hello

I have a small predicament in that i have a friends 30th birthday coming up and i would like to take along 2 kits worth of beer, particularly Firkin Dog Bolter abut i only have time to make 1 batch.
Anyone who has made Dog Bolter will know that a kit makes up about 13.5L so you can't really fit 2 kits (27L) in a standard 25L FV (actually about 26/27L). If this was a weaker beer i would just reduce the amount of water to say 22L and have it a bit stronger but as its already 7.0% that seems a tad foolhardy.

My question is this; is there any reason why i can't make the kit up with 20L of water and then add the further 7(ish)L of water once i've transferred to a second FV for bottling?

Cheers

Nice one, thanks for your response. Since I posted I've found a youngs 33L FV as a back up plan but since you suggest everything should be rosy I think I'll just preboil the water before I add it as you suggest.
