1st time pressure barrelling
1st time pressure barrelling
im due to barrel at the weekend for the 1st time, just wondered how much sugar i have read you dont use as much as if you would bottle eg 80g and other places say use the same amount as bottling??? what do you guys say, this is a bitter im doing atm
Re: 1st time pressure barrelling
I use 80 grams dissolved in water and simmered for a bit, added to barrell first and left too cool. Conditioned 40 pint bitter kits nicely for me (Coopers and Wherry). 80 grams is what I've read on several guides.
Re: 1st time pressure barrelling
The recommendation for priming sugar for barrels has always been 3 imperial ozs, or 85 grams, ever since I first used a barrel in the early 80's. Any more then you're just wasting sugar since the excess gas produced will vent itself off.
