Ladies and gents.......
I've always used airlocks...this is my first time with cling-film.....the kit's a Cooper's Lager.
I'm just concerned the lids going to go! Does everyone just stretch the film over the fermenting bin, push on the lid and prick the film with a pin-head sized hole?

I just put the lid on loosely. Never had a problem. Remember that the CO2-rich micro-climate which the yeast creates is highly toxic to most living things which is why people have been able to successfully brew beer for 1000's of years without the aid of cling-film

I'll not risk taking the lid off this time but from now on I'll leave the lid on loosely.

I'd love to try a Babylonian ale! I wonder what beers tasted like before sterilisation?

my lid is on loosely and the foam is just splurging out of the sides of the lid sitting on top.
i guess it's working!!

Yup........my problem is a hole in the lid from the airlock days......guess I'll need to buy a new lid.

I just clip the lid on mine and shove a clean airlock in, I wonder what's made that behave like mount etna? could that let an infection in if not cleaned up quickly?

No chance of an infection..clingfilm AND a lid! The hole I made for the bung has always been slightly oversized..hence the attempt at using clingfilm.

It's settled now anyway!(24 hours).
