Bottling it for the first time!!
Bottling it for the first time!!
Well, my first batch of home brew lager has been at the same gravity for a few days now and I'm planning on bottling it tomorrow. I'm planning on racking it into my other fermenting bucket (priming solution in first) and then into bottles which are already cleaned and sat in sterlising fluid. Just thought I'd pop a post on to say thankyou to everyone on the forum for their help so far and to see if there is any last minute hints and tips for tomorrow.
Re: Bottling it for the first time!!
enjoy bottling.
i always sanitise a couple of spare bottles.
nothing worse than getting to the bottom of the barrel and finding that theres another pint in there but you havnt got
a clean bottle to put it in.
and...i always fill a couple of half pint bottles to open as early testers over the following weeks, so as not to waste a pint on samples.
i also with my lagers try to include one plastic bottle. that way i can give it a squeeze after a couple of days to be sure its carbonating properly.
good luck.

If you haven't already got one, invest a few pennies in a bottling stick, either fit it to the end of your syphon tube or to the the tap on your fermentor, makes life a lot easier!
Re: Bottling it for the first time!!
Well it's all in the bottles now and thing went OK. The only snag I hit was not checking my bottle properly- 4 of them had screw cap threads on them and wouldn't take a cap
, fortunately I had some spares sterilised so it wasn't too bad, just a bit worried I got air in pouring it from one bottle to the other. Inital tasting was good and the pint I put in a plastic bottle has gone hard over night so hopefully it's a good sign for carbonation.
Thanks again for all the advice.
