have i done something wrong

Post by easty » Tue May 26, 2009 5:44 pm

hi guy's
i have just started a second brew of youngs brewbuddy lager, when the first attempt was fermenting the froth on the surface was clean and white. this time it is covered with a very dark brown layer that looks abit like tar. i had some light brown stuff on surface when i was doing coopers austrailian, but no-where near this much or this dark. is this a bad sign ?

You're safe as this is normal.

Different yeast strains behave differently. The only thing wrong with your brew is that it's lager ;)

worrying is all part of the learning curve!

No need to worry about it, it's fine based on what you're brewing.

A true IPA is a fearsome beast for the uninitiated. Next time you're in the supermarket buy a bottle of something like Marstons Old Empire and try it. Stouts don't have to be harsh.
