Just looking for a bit of advice here chaps, this is my 5th brew, but after 4 days with this one,the hydrometer is only reading 1030 and i have not experienced any of the "gurgling" through the air lock even though i had a big crust that has since subsided. Is this a symptom of a dead yeast? The brew is at a constant 24 degrees.
Any advice/reassurance would be appreciated.
Problem with Coopers Lager
Re: Problem with Coopers Lager
Hi gweahman
What was the OG. has it dropped at all. was there any airlock action at all.
What fermentables did you use, and how much.

Re: Problem with Coopers Lager
Hi Normski, The Og was 1039, there has been no airlock bubbling at all. I used the Coopers yeast supplied in the kit.
Thanks
Thanks
Re: Problem with Coopers Lager
I think if you saw some foam develop then subside, and the hydro has dropped a little bit,
Then your yeast must have started to work.
Is your FV lid seales properly? sometimes my airlocks dont bubble but then if I pressdown all around the lid they start to work. (it takes more pressure then you would imagine to lift that water and make a bubble)
Just remembered, I think Coopers supply a real "lager" yeast with the lager kits so 24 deg might be a bit hot for it.

Re: Problem with Coopers Lager
I did my coopers at 20 which is what Coopers recommend. 24 is near to then top end of coopers range, I would put it somewhere cooler.

Re: Problem with Coopers Lager
Thanks all for the helpful tips
I'll try it in a cooler environment, Do you think it's worth adding another yeast sachet just in case?
