New Wherry - yeast choice

Post by pauljmuk » Thu Jun 25, 2009 8:40 pm

HI all

Just got a replacement Wherry delivered by Muntons (thanks Muntons) following stuck fermentation with last kit following instructions to the letter.

Now, I would like to think they have the problem sorted, but would I be safer using Safale 04 yeast (of which I have several packs) to make it this time around rather than kit yeast?

Cheers

I have fermented 8 Woodfords now (3 Wherry) and not had a single problem. I have always used the supplied yeast. (spinkled on) I say this, not to gloat but to confirm that not everyone has problems with them. I cannot answer your question though, just in case :(

If the 5 gallons of unclearable soup that I've ended up with is any measure of the yeast provided in the kit, you'd be better off using standard bread yeast. I won't be buying another Wherry kit until I know the problem has been resolved. In short; yes, use another suitable yeast by all means.
