how long can i leave before bottling

Post by Matt90 » Fri Jun 26, 2009 11:49 am

I'm having my first faltering attempt to brew a kit.

Things started ok but then slowed. The hydrometer reading was still high, so i've agitated the brew and it's now fermenting again.
It's all taking longer than i thought (10 days so far)
I'm going away on Sunday for a week and don't think things are going to be ready to bottle before then.

How long can i leave the brew before bottleing?
If i leave it til i get back will it be ruined?

What was the OG and what is it currently reading - if its been in for 10 days it should be done by now

It'll be fine for that week. Most of the yeast will have dropped out of suspension by then but there will still be enough to work on the priming sugar when you come to bottle it and you'll end up with less sediment in the bottom of the bottles.
Best wishes

Thanks for the quick replies.
I'll check the gravity again later (not got them to hand at work)
I'm reassured that i should be ok to leave it over the week though.

Cheers
