Brewferm Triple

Hi,

I have just bought a Brewferm Triple kit and am intending to use a light candy sugar in the primary.

I noticed that the instructions state that 90g of sugar should be used for the secondary fermentation, this equating to 5g per bottle.

This appears quite a lot to me and more than the usual half a teaspoon per bottle for a 40 pint kit. ie 80g

Anybody tried this kit and how much priming sugar did you use?

I dont want any exploding bottles on the go!

Also, is it worth racking off the wort into a second FV and leaving a couple of days to allow sediment to drop. Should the priming sugar then be added to the FV before bottling or straight to the bottle?

Not done a triple yet but pretty certain diablo was the same 90gms and it was fine no beer bombs. I primed mine straight into the bottle, but since then I have racked off into a second fv and priming. but I never leave them to settle, I bottle straight away and not had anything not clear.

Cheers

Yeah, I primed my Diablo with 90g and had no explosions in the bottle. Just a well carbonated & potent brew!
I tend to rack mine off into a secondary after 10days. Mainly because my secondary has a tap on it for bottling, but I think it helps it clear too.

I put a Brewferm Triple on the other day. The OG came in at 1067 which is a bit lower than the 1075 stated on the kit. Any chance of check yours when you make it up to see if I did something wrong?

Keep in mind candi sugar has unfermentables in it, so it will weight a bit more than conventional brewing sugar to get the same effect. I regularly prime with candi sugar and have done this kit several times. You said something about per bottle, I hope you aren't priming each bottle individually. You want to boil about a pint of water, kill the flame, put in 90-100g candi sugar, stir and let melt, bring back to boil for 5 mins. Then, when cool, pour quietly in to bottling bucket and then quietly siphon from fermenter/secondary to bottling bucket (I say quietly meaning introducing as little air as possible... after boil it will be oxygen free).
