Brewferm - Framboos

Post by injac » Mon May 18, 2009 9:07 pm

Hi folks,

Anyone made a batch of the Framboos Raspberry ale from Brewferm? Reading the instructions I was a bit unsure of the quantities of water for some reason...or am I having a blonde moment?

Cheers

I've done a few of the Brewferm kits, but not the Framboos. The instructions are a bit confusing as they list the additions required for all the different kits.

The Framboos is a 12 litre kit, so long as that's what you end up with in the fermenter, at roughly the right temperature, you'll not go far wrong.

So let me ge this straight...the most amount of beer I can hope to get out of this kit is 12litres? For a 16 quid kit I'd expect a bit more....

I tried it and left it a few months. It is delicious with a strong raspberry smell and lovely colour. It is quite expensive but worth it as an occasional treat.

A mate bought a tin at the same time as me and also hasn't started his yet so considering combining the two for one big batch.

Is the common consensus right that Candy Sugar is the best stuff to use for this kit?

I made it with candi sugar so I can confirm that's works well. Might be worth a try with household sugar though.

No don't use ordinary sugar, candy sugar is a traditional ingredient in many Belgium beers it does make a difference why spoil an expensive kit for cheap sugar. If you can't get candy sugar golden syrup is very close and it's what I use.

I think they say there are 2 kilos of raspberries in a tin of Framboos and currently they are selling in the supermarkets for £8-10 per kilo.

Brewferm kits are like quality 3kg kits. Even if there is a sugar addition that it to get the alcohol while maintaining a light beer, not to stretch the malt like budget kits. Hence most of them yield half batches. I always buy 2 kits and do a double.

ive just started drinking my brewferm framboos and it's very nice, although i prefer my brewferm diablo. i just used normal brewing sugar from my local brew shop.
