Just checked my 4th kit, another coopers euro but this time done with saflager s23 and kept the temp down by standing FV in a bucket of water and putting ice blocks in it .
Its been on a week now and looks like fermentation has stopped.
Any way it has what look like tan coloured flakes floating on top. When I touched them with the hydrometer they broke into powdery looking stuff.
Is this normal??? If i let it sit will the sink to the bottom or should I rack across into another FV and let it sit a few days??
Tan coloured 'flakes'
Re: Tan coloured 'flakes'
Just leave it as it is, don't be worried about stuff like that fermenters can look very ugly, fire and forget is my motto.
Re: Tan coloured 'flakes'
cheers for the confidence boost, the flakes are still there. Will be coming up to 10 days in the FV and think fermentation has come to a stand still.
So I think I will bottle tomorrow and hope for the best

Re: Tan coloured 'flakes'
Some of mine get ulgy stringy bits hanging in the fermenter almost like spider webs or something hanging from the top down through the fermenter, not a bother, beer tastes great all the same.
