Morgans Beer Making Kits??
Morgans Beer Making Kits??
I noticed these Australian Morgan beer kits http://www.beerkits.co.uk/English/Produ ... r_kits.htm
I am drawn to them as I am a sucker for something shiny and they have nice packaging but as with books - not always an indicator of quality.
Has anyone any experience with these kits

Not personally, though I believe other members have reported that they are decent kits.
I understand that the smoked brown ale is an aquired taste though...

I just bought the blue mountain lager but am yet to stick it on. I bought it as it came in the top 10 kit reviews on the following website:

I have high hopes but am not sure how much to tamper with it (ie hops etc)

I think I remember reading that they are part of the Coopers family.

Be careful the kit needs further ingredients...Enhancer, crystal malt etc all sold separatly in can form. They are not always available either, Make sure you read the instructions. By the time your finished you have done well over twenty quid for a kit that is no where near as good as Woodfordes.

Re: Morgans Beer Making Kits??
The Royal Oak Amber Ale I did last year was pretty good, made up with 500gm light and 500 gm medium spraymalt. I also steeped 150 gms or so of crystal malt and it was quite newki brownish if a little weak for my taste at around 3.8abv.
I`d make it again but only to around 20 - 21 litres max and maybe add a bit of brewing sugar to get it over 4abv. Their wheat beer is supposed to be pretty good too.

What on earth are you on about? Enhancer? Crystal Malt? in can form?!!!! These kits need a sugar /sugar substitute no need for specialist malts or extra cans?!!

Have ordered the smoked beer from H&G. On a trip to Germany last year, I discovered their smoked beer, and whilst usually a "real ale" drinker I took a liking to this particular cold beer, so would be good to produce my own.
Will report back in due course if folks are interested.

I did the iron bark dark ale a while back and used 1 kg light dme and 250 g brew sugar .It was a bit dissapointing really but maybe it was just the way I made it.
Re: Morgans Beer Making Kits??
Any tasting notes on the Smoked brown ale? I've ordered the kit since it sounded like my cup of tea... Brew day this weekend.
Re: Morgans Beer Making Kits??
Not actually got round to brewing it yet to be honest. As I have nowhere cool to condition I tend to brew like mad in the spring to see me through the summer. Will start again in the late summer autumn, so you might beat me to it and be able to give me some tasting notes!

I've got some of these kits on my 'kits to brew before I go AG' list
It would be great to hear what people reckon to them - they sound great.
