These kits any good?

Has anyone tried this kit or any of the other kits in this series? Are they any good?

By strange coincidence, I've just bottled the JB Masterclass Irish Stout... currently priming, and I should be able to report back when I have a sneak preview in a few days, if that's any help.

It did smell nice while it was brewing...

Been swigging the JB Irish Stout today...

Not bad, very drinkable but nothing spectacular...

...will try something else next, perhaps one of the Muntons Stouts which always seems to be well liked.

Cooper's Stout Kit, with 1.2kg spraymalt, up to 37.5 pints makes a 'classic'.

I'm drinking mine now, after 4 days in the Keg (Thank god for this cold weather)...will it get better? Who cares! It is gorgeous. Slightly burnt malt, lightly hopped, medium body and clear as anything.

Even the wife, who wouldn't touch rubbish exclaimed 'This tastes like bottled Guinness'...says it all really.

Remember to rehydrate the yeast, it makes all the difference.

Dave.

Cheers Dave. Is that standard spraymalt or dark?

I used light. Even though it doesn't darken the beer, it definitely has a cleaner taste than dark stuff.

Interestingly, I once used 1kg light and 500g extra dark and got the darkest stout in the world, using Telfords Shamrock Stout which is easily as good as the Cooper's Stout.
