Re: geordie mild
It's horrible - I guess a little treacle goes a long way, as its all you can taste. This one's going to have to go down the sink I think.dunc wrote:I stuck a full 1lb tin in the mix with mine, but haven't tried it yet as its only been kegged a few days. will give you a progress report in a couple of weeks.

Re: geordie mild
Wow. 1ib of treacle is a lot... the problem with black treacle is that it is 99% simple sugar which ferments out like granulated - leaving the beer thin and alcoholic tasting. The flavour which remains from the treacle after fermentation can be really quite nasty and overpowering.dunc wrote:It's horrible - I guess a little treacle goes a long way, as its all you can taste. If you want to make a really nice beer from the Geordie Mild, move away from adding different types of sugar, and think about adding steeped grains. You can make a cracking beer from this kit by adding crystal malt, chocolate malt and a few hops... have a search of the forum for ideas.
Re: geordie mild
yeah, I think I'll do that. And no more black treacle experiments for me.

Re: geordie mild
I did a Geordie Mild with 100g Treacle and a mix of 800g sugar and 800g Golden Syrup and was really pleased with the results, the Treacle made the beer a bit more cloudy than I was expecting so kind of wished I'd used some finings to clear it. Started at 1054OG and finished at 1005.
I'm about to run a new brew of this this weekend but want a way to make a more alcoholic brew, but not sure whther to go more sugar or more Golden Syrup....
