Brupaks Christmas Ale

Post by Ingieuk » Sat Nov 21, 2009 4:21 pm

Just put a Christmas Ale on. First one i have tried from the 'Beers of the World' Series.

Its a good length, 10L, handy as I have 20 bottles just sat waiting and the keg is full :D

Anyone had a taste of this brew before? Im really looking forward to trying it, "Dark, sweet and spicy, great for a cold winters night"
I was in Hop and Grape, all ready to get the stuff for my first extract brew, got this instead along with some juniper berries to put in the FV.
All went smoothly, except I had to put the FV in some cold water for a while to bring the temperature down from 35 degrees so I could pitch.

The instructions don't give much clue as to the FG but the OG was 1.050.

Just got to wait till christmas now, though I have lots of juniper berries left, I may have a stab at making some gin!

Just taken a Hydrometer reading, 1.019, down from 1.050 so it's getting there I think. Is this reasonably near a final gravity? No info is given other than "less than one bubble a minute" but then this is for the Brubox system.

I also had a sneaky taste, couldn't resist! It tastes good, though the spices don't come through quite as much as I thought. It's really dark, looks like liquid christmas cake!:) As it's quite strong I'm expecting it to keep getting better after a reasonably long conditioning.

Also had a taste of my Brewers choice best bitter, an slightly unusual taste but I like it.

Something I have noticed is each of the kits I have done have a slight tang to the aftertaste, after a bit of reaserch it seems this is specific to kits. In which case I think the next stop is extract for a fresh hoppy beer :) yum!
