Last night I made up about 22l of Cooper's Stout.
This morning the FV looks like Pearl Harbour before the Japanese arrived, all peaceful, serene, and, dare I say it, beautiful. I have it sitting in a plastic bath that's half filled with water, maintained at 20 degrees with an aquarium heater. I have loosened up one side of the lid to allow for over spill. I have an air lock in, but only because the bung that holds it is the easiest way to block the hole in the lid.
Yeast was pitched at about 25 degrees.
I am typing this under the table, with a miners helmet on. Flashlight an' all. If ye don't hear from me over the Christmas tell everyone I love them and that I died like a man.
Sound. Good luck.

Oh, by the way, my OG was about 1.038, does that sound about right?
After the blitz, before bottling, what can I expect the FG to be?

Sounds alright to me ~ given the vagueries of a normal person working out all that temperature conversion stuff and having the falcon like eyesight to catch what they reckon's a bang accurate reading anyway. Personally, I just make it and drink it. It'll be what it'll be, regardless of what the calculator suggests
I slung a couple of stouts in yesterday. Pretty much exactly twenty four hours ago. Heaters set to about 20F. 20 Lts in each. Just starting to spew quite nicely as I type

I'm alright folks, I'm ok!
Turns out that Cooper's wasn't exactly the nuclear fission experiment I was expecting. Vigorous yes, but it didn't remodel the house.
The krausen hit the lid alright, and I had it slightly loosened, so I'm presuming this prevented any spew. The temp. was at 20 aswell, which wasn't too hectic. She was stuck on a consistent 1.012 for 3 days so I lobbed it in the bottle last night with a little under a 1/2 teaspoon of light muscovado. The liquid seemed much clearer than the Wherry, not carrying as much suspension. Or maybe it was that I just couldn't see it. Anyway, they can do what they like now, I can do no more!
Had a taste about two days ago. Tastes like stout alright. Perhaps a bit harsh and coffee-ey but I can see the potential in it. A few weeks down the road now and they job'll be a good 'un.
PS - if there's any frost heading yere way get the empty bottles out of barrels of water, I lost a fair few over the big freeze!
