It's a new barrel, just a budget one that came with a Young's Kit. It's just a regular plastic tap.

It's the first time it's been used!

It was sitting somewhere that was about 18degrees and it didn't happen then. This is day 4 of secondary fermentation and I thought 18 degrees wasn't warm enough so I moved it somewhere that's nearer 21-22 degrees! Could this be the problem?

Daab, your a star, that's exactly what it was. I had it turned to the stop but put it at 90degrees and it's stopped!

Maturing temperature

I racked my beer to the barrel and stored it at 20 degrees for a week and am now leaving it to mature. I've tried to find somewhere cool in the house and i've read you should store it at approx 13 degrees. I'm currently storing it at between 15-17 degrees. Is this too warm, will it make a difference?

Also, I tried some of it the other day and whilst I now know that the cheaper kits are to be avoided, I was relieved to find that it does actually taste like beer!

cheers
